Cybersecurity as a opportunity career
Oriol Val Gangonells // 23 de agosto de 2018
Every time it costs more to find a professional exit or a career where to focus the studies to build a future. It is even difficult to find a professional outlet that has a job demand. This usually happens especially to young people when they start their professional career. Even so, this is not the case of cybersecurity, which we will evaluate from R3CyberSecurity below.
What is cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity deals with everything related to computer security, from the security of a domestic Internet network or a vulnerability found in a computer program. There are many areas within it, of which we highlight the following:
1. Ethical hacking Detects vulnerabilities in different applications, web applications, etc. Always aiming to improve the application and never to misuse it.
2. Forensic analysis. Investigate an incident to clarify what happened or to retrieve information. For more information you can visit our previous article on the blog dedicated to forensic analysis here.
3. Development of a SIEM (Security Infomation and Event Management). As its name suggests, it focuses on monitoring various important elements of a company and reporting everything that happened to avoid failures and vulnerabilities in the systems.
4. Security management. It is the legal part of cybersecurity and aims to ensure that any company in any field complies with the Data Protection Law (GDPR) to prevent attackers from taking personal information from any user
Why is cybersecurity a career opportunity for young people?
More and more assaults are being made on computer systems or scandal on television of the theft of sensitive information to a group of users registered on an internet platform. For example, attacks and stolen information are increasing in number. That’s why cybersecurity experts are needed to stop and protect systems from attacks. In 2016, there were 105,000 computer attacks, twice as many as in 2015 and five times more than in 2014; later in 2017 there were 120,000 attacks, 15,000 more than the previous year; finally in 2018 all the forecasts say that these figures will be overcome again.
The fact that there are so many attacks requires personnel to neutralize them, protect the systems, evaluate when an incident has occurred and retrieve information or assess the loss of this .. There is also a need in companies to protect their systems before something happens serious. They fear that the next ones may be them. In addition, due to the lack of control of user data by companies, the obligations imposed on companies for their regulation are increasing. Protecting that nobody can make a misuse of this information without the express consent of the user. All these factors are what make cybersecurity more and more a professional outlet with much demand.
In short, we are talking about a professional outlet with high demand and few qualified personnel, in addition to the emergence of the sector. This means that, in the coming years, there will still be a lot of demand, so from R3CyberSecurity we define it as a career opportunity for any young person who is finishing his studies
